Wow, what a week. I am acting team lemur at work and lovin' it! I have been marching around acting all seniority-ish and getting really angsty. Just what I always dreamed of. I had to send an email to my manager, director and Group Manager today apologising for the tone of one of my emails on Friday.
In my team lemur duties I have discovered some classic fuckups at work and its a spot fire cleanup deal. All my work hass been put aside for now.
I went to two political demonstrations this past week. The rally at the G for the IR reforms and the 'Long Walk' for aborigines. I'm sooooooo political! It was pretty good fun and I got sunburnt on sunday.
I also managed to sleep a lot on the weekend which is always nice.
In other news....I gave up reading the life of pi coz it was boring. I have renamed it 'the boring life of pi'. It now sits on my shelf next to Bord of the Rings. Man that book is so boring. I can never get through it. I do like Schmeagle though.
Im now reading 'Post Office' by Charles Bukowski which is really good. I saw a doco on him a few months back and he writes well. Am thinking he could be worth reading more of. I think he wrote heaps of poetry.
I have finalised the dates for my cycling trip with Uncle Tony so I need to get organised. Have to sort out freight to get Whitlam over there. Accommodation on the island and supplies and spares.
thats enough for now
Congratulations Christo (aka Professor Juttner),
Won his first regatta in the etchells sailboat class on the weekend!
I was sad to hear about the recent death of Robert Altman.
Although I haven't seen many of his films I have read many books and articles about them and understand that he was a very important film maker.
One that I did manage to watch was 'McCabe and Mrs Miller'. It was worth watching and I went a bought the dvd afterwards coz I liked it so much. Its hard to put your finger on whats appealing about the film but I just liked it. The scene in the snow at the end looks amazing.
Kind of makes me think that it might be worth watching more of his films, instead of reading about them....Nah
As if having a blog isn't selfish enough.....How about putting a large picture of yourself on your blog....with you standing in front of it?
In other news I upgraded my mac versions of imovie and idvd and have now successfully authored my first dvd. I'm pretty excited about it. Otherwise, life aint too exciting
Im very excited!
In January I am going on my annual sailing trip with dad, Genevieve, Kate and the other crew.
On top of that I am going to do a cycling trip over 3 days with uncle Tony. We are planning to catch the ferry to kangaroo Island and cycle around it. A small trip for uncle but it should be grouse.
Its been quite a weekend. I went to a training session on video editing which was very useful. I have assembled all the films from fight films ready to author on one dvd. Last night I found I couldn't actually make it burn onto a dvd. Back to training - Im going to more this friday. Ahhh government life. I am taking the day off.
Work is mental. but thats just how it is so Im not going to harp on about it.
I went and saw Prugo on the weekend which was very nice. We ate battered savs by the river. I also bought a kite which pretty much sums up how exciting my life is. Kite flying - the choice of a new generation!
It was good to get back on the bike today.
On other things. I had a classic 'cake and eat it experience' on the weekend. I will expand more later.
I've long loved pelicans for their grace in the air, soaring with the thermals seemingly far above the worldly worries of mortage defaults and unpaid child support. On the ground, of course, they are far less graceful but no less endearing. Of all my many happy memories with pelicans, the most vivid happened in the heady autumn of 1974 off the Queensland coast near the town of Labradoodle. This area has had a long human history of pirating and poaching, and has come to be known as the Cash Converters Coast. On this occasion, I was sailing with three South African fishermen in a converted Swiss U-Boat. These characters were real men of the sea, having never heard of the Berlin Wall and constantly condemning dancing as the decadent excess of the "land-o's." Despite their mistrust of me, they had kindly offered me a ride up the coast to get to Port Menthol, where I had been engaged as an Allan Border impersonator by a local hotel impressario. By sunset on the second day of the voyage, we had made great progress, having spent a perfect day drifting past clear blue atolls and watching dolphins tangle themselves in the lines cast from the back of the vessel. Of course, as we threw away their mangled remains, we attracted quite a crowd of pelagic birds, including wandering albatrosses, various species of diving-petrels and the ubiquitous pelicans. I was scraping the last entrails of a blue-nibbed tuna off my pants when a particularly agressive and cheeky pelican rushed at me, but tripped over on the foredeck of the U-boat in its zeal for my crusty overalls. In tripping over, from the pelican's beak burst out a pet chihuaua, very much alive but dazed and confused in the fading dusk light. The dog quickly got its sea legs and started yapping away at its former imprisoner, forcing it back to the edge of the boat and then finally off into the inky dark waters of the Gulf of Compliance. The three South Africans and I fell about laughing for the rest of the journey thinking about how the dog found itself in that predicament in the first place. In the end, the dog became known as Pelican and was adopted by the South Africans as their ship's mascot. My stint as an Allan Border impersonator was less than successful however, and I quickly returned south to my previous life as a tamagotchi programmer. Next week join me as I profile the enigmatic ibis.
Well then. For once I didn't snore. I went to a lecture tonight and fell asleep. One of the presenters was an eminent QC and another was the President of VCAT. I managed to doze off during the Presidents address. How embarrassment!
I came home to find Maerz had sent me the following photos. What a star!
